Benefits of Laughter

We hear that laughter is the best medicine and somehow we know that is true because when we laugh, we instantly feel better. It is a great mood shifter and so vital for the body in numerous ways. Because it can't be packaged and sold or prescribed for a monetary value, it isn't often researched so there aren't anywhere near as many studies as the pharmaceutical industry has for the drugs that are so prevalent in our society. In our society we do need proof that something works before we'll try it...even laughter.

Luckily there are studies and research done by pioneers who know there is a simple truth in the value of laughter to oxygenate the body and mind and allow a clear moving path of air for breath and blood nourishing the organs that make up a functional working body flowing with ease, rather than dis-ease.

From organizations and groups that support the research and studies and the numerous amounts of people now finding the value in laughter, many more ways to benefit the body are being discovered.

Laughter helps drive the oxygen through the body
We commonly use only about 1 liter of the five liters of air available in our lung capacity in our daily routines, the remaining four liters becomes stale air uncirculated until we do something overtly vigorous like running a marathon to get the airways moving.

Laughter helps us release stress and feel good
Cortisol is a hormone that builds when stress is present. In laughter the Endorphins, which are the hormones that make us feel good are released and the Cortisol is decreased so the body relaxes and finds more ease

Laughter energizes and encourages
We bring more air and blood flow into our muscles easing the tight grip and adding more of the soothing relaxation that puts them in a more functional order. We shift into higher energy level and we feel more opportunity minded

Laughter creates community
We are social animals and are born into a world full of people, in laughter the playing field is leveled and we are able to see the unique individuals that we are and that others are too.

Laughter builds confidence
A regular practice of laughter teaches one to open the body and change the position of fear to possibility. The proper oxygenation allows a clearer thinking and one feels the breath at work when making vital decisions to calmly make them realizing a higher level of conciousness. Suddenly people feel more confident because they can laugh where once they felt self concious

Laughter creates a clarity and acceptance
The joining together of deeper breathing and laughter exercises is as much a healthy practice as it is a fun one. In the process of laughing in a way that focuses on "laughing with" instead of a learned "laughing at" one finds a way to look at things more objectively.

Laughter creates a proactive mind set
Reaction to any situation is what we create when we are unaware or unconsious to our surroundings, laughter creates a wonderful awareness opening the mind and the body so we are ready to see where we are standing and what is going on around us. We find through regular practice this builds and one can become more proactive about the choices that are available and make better decisions and have better outcomes

Who can benefit from a Laughter Practice?

The benefits can be noticed after only one session, that's how effective it is, though a regular practice builds on more of the positive qualities we have and brings them to the forefront of our conciousness and actions.
